Ancora una volta gli Ethnos mantengono fede all'impegno assunto alla loro nascita nel 2003, quando partirono all'insegna di un progetto di rivalutazione della tradizione artistica popolare lucana.
Il nuovo disco è la piena espressione del Gruppo lucano che con questo lavoro vuole confrontarsi con il pubblico più esigente e colto, quello che chiede di coniugare sonorità moderne, rispetto per la tradizione ed eccellenza esecutiva.
Gli Ethnos, da molti considerati un gruppo apripista nel settore della musica di ispirazione tradizionale, con questo nuovo CD promettono di imporre un nuovo modo di affrontare il complesso mondo della musica trasmessa oralmente.
Questo disco non è soltanto una operazione di equilibrismo tra tradizione e modernità, ma esplora i più intricati meandri della musica di tradizione orale cercando di portare alla luce e di enfatizzare la inaspettata modernità dei moduli melodici e ritmici nascosti tra le pieghe di sonorità che hanno centinaia di anni.
L'esplorazione del linguaggio profondo della musica tradizionale consente agli Ethnos non solo nuove letture interpretative, ma anche di ritrovare nelle tarantelle e nelle ballate richiami e similitudini con musiche tradizionali di altri paesi europei o addirittura di altri continenti.
Altra caratteristica di questo lavoro è l'accurata scelta dei materiali proposti: un attento e sapiente lavoro di ricerca, guidato da una forte passione per la riscoperta delle musiche tradizionali e da una curiosità istintiva.
Non è possibile, poi, rimanere indifferenti di fronte al virtuosismo musicale che caratterizza molti dei brani presenti nel CD. D'altra parte stiamo pur sempre parlando di musicisti del calibro di Graziano Accinni, di Franco Accinni, Silvio De Filippo, Marco Tirone, Sal Genovese, Gegè De Filippis e Sergio Leopardi.
Tutti artisti che hanno ereditato non solo la bravura ma anche la passione per la musica da portatori di tradizione come - solo per fare un esempio - il grande Pietro Di Lascio, che ha ispirato alcuni dei brani contenuti in questo CD.
Questo lavoro, quindi, è anche un tributo agli anziani musicisti popolari, un modo per fissare un momento storico, culturale ed estetico che stava svanendo dalla memoria collettiva, e questo è un grande punto di merito e di orgoglio per gli Ethnos.
Ma questa volta l'ambizione è anche un'altra.
Gli Ethnos hanno messo insieme, per la prima volta, tre grandi sorelle musicali del Sud Italia - la Lucania occidentale, il Cilento lucano e le Puglie – enfatizzando la profondità arcaica della musica lucana, le contaminazioni proprie della musica cilentana e la solarità dei ritmi del Gargano e della Murgia pugliese.
Altro merito di questo CD è quello di aver riportato nella tarantella lucana la chitarra battente, grazie alla bravura di Enzo Valente, Angela Castelluccia e Angelo Loia.
L'originalità e la raffinatezza si ritrova anche nella progressione dei brani che non è mai banale: si alternano i temi della devozione religiosa popolare delle "tre sorelle" alla danza, i canti di "gioco" a quelli licenziosi.
E come non parlare del libretto allegato al Cd. Un vero e proprio scrigno prezioso di testi ed immagini assolutamente inedite e di grandissimo valore demo-antropologico.
Insomma, la promessa sembra più che credibile, e siamo anche certi che nonostante il grande lavoro compiuto in fase creativa ed in sala di registrazione, la dimensione del confronto diretto con il pubblico e della festa popolare sarà un altro punto di forza di questa nuova creazione degli Ethnos.
