Bregada Berard ::: Bon Nadal Occitania

Bon Nadal Occitania, is a collection of compositions from the tradition conceived to commemorate Christmas. This is the unusual soundtrack for the upcoming Festivities recommended by BREGADA BERARD, the collective alter ego of Sergio BERARDO, charismatic leader of Lou Dalfin and reputed representative of the Occitany music and culture.
If it might sound an unusual BERARDO what comes out of the first notes of this recording, considered his commitment in organising and discovering of traditional Occitany tune, we do not have to forget that this artist from the Cuneo Valleys has always been, from the start, a severe and passionate researcher of the patrimony of his lands, of which he successfully recomposed the music repertoire for hurdy-gurdy.
In his new record BERARDO’s wide instrumental musical knowledge thrives, his role as director of the entire operation named BREGADA BERARD is evident. The result is a journey back in time that easily and naturally draws us through the Christmas sounds that used to echo in the Occitany Valleys in medieval times.
Chants and melodies presented by BREGADA BERARD show us their artistic depth and proves how cantar Nadal or cantar nové used to be deeply rooted in their people’s life.
It is the tradition of the singing nativity to powerfully rise, expression of an authentic popular tradition never choked by ritual restrictions, oozing spirituality and shared participation. BERARDO dots the record with multiple instrumental gems (hurdy-gurdy in D, hurdy-gurdy in G, semiton (melodeon), piva d’Estròp, boha, bodega, clarin, flabuta and ton-ton, fifre, fluta de cabra, aboés, saz) together with talented musicians who unconditionally supported the project: Valeria Benigni and her remarkable voice, Francesco Giusta and Federico Silvestri (ghironde), Roberto Fesia (keyboard), Dino Tron (musetas), Riccardo Serra (drums), Mario Poletti (mandolin, bouzouki), Emma Rouault (cello), Luca Biggio (sax), Marco Martinetto (harmonium), Patrick Rougeot and Jean Paul Faraut (galobet-tamborin), the Choir l’Escabòt directed by Fabrizio Simondi, Color Brass directed by Diego Vasserot

Lou Tapage ::: Que vos lei far

Lou Tapage (which in the medieval French dialect Langue d’Oc means "the uproar") was born in 1999 with the meeting of seven talented musicians from Saluzzo in northwestern Italy. Their different styles combined to create a sound so unique that a new term has been created to describe their genre: Nu Folk. It is a personal and eclectic sound, deep-rooted but always on the go. A strong but intangible leitmotiv, always present, is the energy of the band itself. At its core, Lou Tapage is in fact an energetic exploration, without preconceptions, into what music is and what it might convey... .. After researching the ancient Langue d'Oc, they decided to compose lyrics in the Catalan, Provençal and Occitan dialects, sometimes mixed with elements of French, Italian and Spanish (Castilian), along with traditional melodies... .. In the past few years, Lou Tapage has performed at many concerts throughout Italy. You can see the complete list on ..www.loutapage.com..... .. In 2003 a five song demo-tape was produced. In December 2005 the album "Lou Tapage" was released by Videoradio (..www.videoradio.org.. -- the label of, among others: Andrew Braido, Faso, Meyer, Menconi, Maxx Furian, Tullio de Piscopo and of the orchestra Symphonic National RAI) and distributed by HotRecords. In 2007 the band's second album, Rêve Etèrne, was released by Folkest disks (..www.folkest.com..). .. .. Songs by Lou Tapage appear on several compilation CDs and have been broadcast nationwide on numerous radio and television stations..

Lhi Jari ::: Minoranças

The group presents its own folk-rock Occitan music with the idea of blending the enchanting quality of traditional music with the thrilling sound of contemporary music. Lhi JARI set up in 1996 as 'La Bando dal Giari' and in October 2003 changed its name to this one more incisive. A style which stems from the wish to continue on the traditional influence of years gone by, and also from the desire to present the group's original modern style under a newly developed 'electric disguise'. Native from Piedmont (Turin, Italy), the group presents itself as an original interpreter of the 'Occitan' music and finds its own roots in the poetry and lyrics of the ancient troubadours of 'Langue d'oc'. The objective is to present a repertoire of its own composition, in which the traditional form of the Occitan dances is portrayed in the form of rock ska or funk: traditional instruments, such as accordion, bagpipes, violin, hurdy-gurdy and flutes play alongside bass, electric guitar and drums

Lou Quinse ::: Lou Quinse

It literally means “The Fifteen” in the Frencoprovençal dialect, the ancient tongue spoken in parts of the Piedmontese valleys (lower Susa Valley, Lanzo Valleys, Orco and Soana Valleys) and in Aosta Valley, and also in French Savoy and in French-speaking Switzerland. The meaning of the name does not stop there. The Fifteen is also the number of the Devil in the tarot cards (its is the fifteenth card) and with this name the Devil is known and called in the French-provençal and Occitan valleys.
But Lou Quinse perfectly describes the kind of music played by the band: “devilish” heavy metal, which has always been followed by accusations of being satanic, meets a tradition which has never suffered dogma and impositions Music coming from the earth is therefore saved from oblivion by renovation, actualization, without losing its own proud roots. Occitan and French-provençal tunes find new life in the marriage, by some thought to be blasphemous, of traditional instruments (hurdy-gurdy, diatonic accordion, flutes), harmonious and melodic, with the distorted and destructive energy typical of metal, where guitars, bass and drums create a sonic wall able to receive a painting of traditional songs.
Thus, boureias, rigaudons and farandole, with their light-hearted and funny lyrics, which can also become melancholic and thoughtful, meet the darkness of black metal, the power of death metal and the speed of thrash metal in an organic musical experience which has very few, if any, precedents.
Lou Quinse was born in 2006 in Barmes (Balme), a small town in Val d’Ala, when Furio Sguayzer and Daniele Quaranta are asked to take part in the locally well-known folk festival “Barmes Folk” with their band Heretica, readapting traditional music to their style. The two friends soon realize that this cross-over was a sure win and that it would have been a pity to limit this experience to a band which, naturally, would have soon had to return to its original music. They are therefore helped by Simone Cottura and by Abnorma, and they decide to form a new band. Lou Quinse is born.
Furio (semitoun – diatonic accordion), student to Dino Tron, accordion player of the most famous Occitan band (Lou Dalfin), Daniele (vos et brams – vocals and growls) and Simone (baterìa - drums) are integrated with Francesco Cavallero (chitara elétrica – electric guitar), from Vespero, immediately followed by Domenico Santoro (bass - bass).
This first line-up allows Lou Quinse to host their first live gig during one of Vespero’s and Heretica’s. During stage swap the present two songs. The line up is then soon further integrated by Luca Braga from Vespero (flàuts - flutes) and Ivan di Vincenzo from Kynesis (chitara elétrica – electric guitar).
The time is right to present the innovative and traditional music to the public and the band participates in numerous events including High Voltage Fest, DIY Fest and Blood Fest in Turin, and also hosting concerts in Cafasse, Aosta and Busto Arsizio, reaching semi finals in one of Italy’s most notorious underground competitions, Rock on Circle.
In the meantime the line up is completed by the talented hurdy-gurdy player Alexander Parise (vioulo – hurdy-gurdy) from Trigomigo, student to the master of hurdy-gurdy playing Sergio Berardo (Lou Dalfin), which brought the melodic tune and rhythmic growl of his hurdy-gurdy

A fil de ciel ::: A fil de ciel

A mix of melodies old and new, some dating back to the 13th Century, all from the Occitan region. On their debut, A Fil de Ciel show themselves as a band willing to take plenty of chances, updating folk traditions in time-honored fashion, although without adding programmed beats or electronica (except some organ). There's something of a rock sensibility in the arrangements, but without ever being so obvious, and they take full advantage of the beautiful melodies they have as their basis.

Gai Saber :: Three Recordings (of four)

The group GAI SABER is born in the Occitan linguistic-cultural area, that is those Piedmontese valleys where the ancient Oc language is spoken. The name comes from an ancient poetic challenge between poets of the XIV century; words and music draw their inspiration from the very rich oral tradition and the rhythms of the Occitan dances. The project started with this aim in 1992 as Kalenda Maia. Since 1996 the name has become Gai Saber with the spirit of a continuous inspiration to the original Occitan music.
The group takes its first steps in the modern Occitan folk and folk-rock, moving slowly toward more experimental atmospheres. With their last works the group deeply conjugates the rhythms of the dance traditional Occitan music with electronic music, jungle and trip-hop atmospheres, but also mediterranean and Latin flavours.
