Scaricavascio - Gruppo di musica popolare meridionale was named after a traditional play performed in Lucania in the XIX century.
Boys circled hand in hand, then other boys formed another circle on their shoulders, then another circle and while in precarious balance, they all sang an improvised answer and question song.

Elena Ledda - Amargura

Trained as an Opera soprano, Elena Ledda soon quitted to become the most loved Sardinian singer after Maria Carta era.
This album, her latest one so far, is produced by the Neapolitan violin player Lino Cannavacciuolo and has more rich arrangements than before.
Among guests there is the well known Sardinian jazz player Paolo Fresu, who collaborated with Elena in Sonos 'e memoria and her usual partners Mauro Palmas and Simonetta Soru.

CALICANTO - 25 anni Calicanto (2 CD’s - december 2006)

Calicanto, historical protagonist of the Italian folk revival, celebrated their 25 years as a group releasing a two cd set.
They showcased it in Padoa, their hometown, on Dec 19, 2006. 
That evening, City theatre was overwhelmed with 800 people showing their love for the musicians.
It’s a well reserved recognisation for all the work Calicanto has been doing so far.

CD 1 was recorded live on Sept 8, 2006 at  villa Godi-Marinoni, Barbarano Vicentino by Paolo Bernardini e Claudio Bellin, except tracks 01 and 12 recorded Sept 11, 2005 at CENSER, Rovigo.
Cd 2 is a compilation from the band’s 12 previous albums.

It’s distributed by Felmay with fine artwork by Carlo Buffa.

Lou Dalfin - Gibous, bagase e bandi'

After two strictly folk recordings, Lou Dalfin tranformed into this folk rock outfit. This is their fourth and, dare I say, best record. 
Leader of the group, Sergio Berardo, is the mastermind behind the revival of Occitan folk music: most of the musicians playing today in Western Piedmont have been his pupils, or are heavily influenced by him.
Lou pal is an Occitan version of the anti Franco Catalan song L'estaca by Lluis Llach.

Giovanna Marini - La vivazione (La partita truccata)

Not a folk album at all, but Giovanna Marini has been, and still is, one of the leading performer on the Italian folk scene.
La vivazione, is part of a series of long political ballads Marini wrote and performed in the '60s and the '70s.

Eugenio Bennato Musicanova - Taranta power

Eugenio Bennato was a member of the seminal Neapolitan band Nuova compagnia di canto popolare and later of Musicanova with Carlo D'Angiò and Teresa De Sio.
After a several years gap, in 1998, he resumed Musicanova brand with this new band. This is their first album from 1999. Most of the songs are penned by Bennato himself and there are two cover from old Musicanova's albums.

La musica popolare ligure - a cura di Edward Neill

Zirudella (ty) sent me this K7 ripping.
It was released alongside a book (La musica popolare ligure - Sedimus editore, Milano) written by the late Edward Neill, English ethnomusicologist who has been living so many years in Genoa to become a true Genoan.
Sound quality isn't very good and not anyone could be interested in this kind of stuff, nonetheless I guess it is a fair addition to this blog.
